more.
Although a native of
Kansas City,
Kansas, Carolyn Bibbs has called
Memphis home for over
twenty-nine (29) years. At
Crichton
College in
Memphis, she earned a Bachelor
of Science degree in Christian Education and has studied extensively at
Memphis Theological Seminary. In 2001, she was awarded a Doctorate of
Humanities from
St.
Stephens
University in
California.
The real love in Carolyn’s life is the
community youth development program, Creative Life Incorporated,
of which she is the founder and CEO. Creative Life is housed in a
beautifully renovated 21,000 sq. ft. warehouse on the outskirts of one of
Memphis’ most economically
challenged communities. Each week Creative Life, serves approximately four
hundred (400) children and youth by providing a plethora of after school
activities. The results have been nothing short of phenomenal, including
higher standardized test scores, building of self-esteem, and a noticeable
improvement in grades and behavior.
Since 1997 Dr. Bibbs, grant writer, has
over eight million dollars to fund her programs. Eight
years ago, Dr. Bibbs decided to take the youth development one step further
by opening and assuming the responsibility of Chief Administrator of
Creative Life Preparatory School, a state-approved Christian school.
It is
the first private school in the area and is designed to promote accelerated
learning for children, who would benefit greatly from the smaller classroom
setting and the individualized instruction. For this and other services to
the community, Carolyn has received recognition, both on the state and
national level and serves on many boards for the quality and betterment of
life for the children and families of her community.
Dr.
Bibbs, an ordained elder, now pastors, Saving Station Christian Church, a
church planted in 2003 that caters to needs of inner city youth. Her
creative abilities for preaching, singing, songwriting and playwriting have
carved out a niche for her to travel the globe with motivation and
inspiration.
