"A Good Problem To Have"

Tekelia C. Kelly

Founder & CEO-Sisters In Business, Publisher

You may have heard of the expression "...that's a good problem to have." Well, we would like to use this phrase to spin our editorial article for this week.

As is the case for many small businesses, Sisters In Business is a woman-owned operation performing with a very skeletal crew (one person, if you don't include my husband who was recently drafted to proofread my newsletters).  Many new businesses are not in a position to hire employees, and have staff for each functional area of business like that of a larger business or corporation.  However, the functions of these areas are often times still very much needed.  So, you will find the owner and his or her faithful few partners wearing several hats to accomplish all of the needed functions.

This brings me to the point of this article.  Due to business growth, Sisters In Business is experiencing an increase in work volume, which translates into increased production schedules, project management time, and customer service.  We definitely see this growth in business as a good thing...and it is "a good problem to have". Nevertheless, one that warrants attention.

We are contemplating whether to publish the Sisters In Business eNewsletter on a biweekly basis.  Therefore, we thought we'd poll you for your thoughts about the matter.  Would you prefer to receive the newsletter  “weekly”, biweekly, or monthly?  Is one time better than the other? Or does it matter?  Let us hear from you.  Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.   Please feel free to email us comments at  sistersinbusiness@comcast.net

Best wishes!
Tekelia

Sisters In Business is a "sisterly" networking firm that connects both established and emerging women in business and their communities, world-wide.  The Sisters In Business eNewsletter is distributed to thousands of readers locally, nationally, and globally.  Thank you for your interest in this publication.

 Evelyn Bakers Business Debut

 Elegant Handkerchiefs

Evelyn Bakers' Elegant Handkerchiefs Business Debut

Evelyn Baker of Elegant Handkerchiefs is a native of Chattanooga, TN. She is the oldest of three siblings, and daughter of G.W. Willis and the late Evelyn P. Willis.  While growing up Evelyn watched her mother sew, and not knowing that she would take on where her mother left off, Evelyn discovered her talent of sewing.

While developing her talent over 10 years, she would discover how older ladies carried handkerchiefs embroidered with lace while going to church.  She would ask them from whom and where did they get their handkerchiefs.  Some responded that they had friends who made them, or that they had purchased them at conventions.

One particular lady Evelyn consulted was Mrs. Gay Crutcher. After seeing her beautiful handkerchiefs, Evelyn began her search for fabric and lace to begin her dream of making elegant handkerchiefs.

Evelyn started making all of her handkerchiefs by hand. Later, purchasing a machine to speed up her work, she changed from a plain satin fabric with 2 inches of lace to a polyester/jacquard fabric with 2 to 5 inches of designer lace. She achieved a look of elegance for her customers' greater satisfaction.  Learn more about Evelyn Baker and her Elegant Handkerchiefs.  Click here for her Business Directory Listing.  Click here for her Web Page.  Click here for merchandise showcase at SIBay.
